Our School Day and School Times
Each year group consists of two classes; each with a class teacher. Each class teacher is able to teach a broad curriculum including the core subjects. Teachers will teach the majority of the children’s lesson. All teachers are entitled to Planning, Preparation and Assessment time (PPA), this will generally be covered by Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). Teachers may make arrangements with their parallel teacher to teach specific subjects, such as music, PE, languages or computing. At different times in the year, children may be taught by a subject specialist such as a sports coaches.

The school gates open at 8:30. Children should not be on the school premises before. All children should be in the classroom, ready for the school day to begin by 8:50. The first half hour of the day is a very important time during which the teacher will introduce the day’s work. Being late will put a child at a great disadvantage.
There is a morning playtime of 15 minutes at 10:20 for the infants and 11:00 for the juniors. The school is part of the scheme run by the DFE where children in the infants receive a piece of fruit a day. Junior children can also bring a piece of fruit /healthy snack from home to eat during morning playtime. Only water is allowed at school and children are encouraged to bring a bottle which can be refilled at school and is available to them in the classroom throughout the day.
Lunchtime for the infants is between 12:00 - 13:00 and 12:15 - 13:15 for the lower juniors and 12:30 - 13:30 for the upper juniors. All children eat in the school hall. Infants children will come in first, with juniors being called on a rota. There are a range of activities and 'zones' available for the children during lunchtime including; dressing up zones, construction and a creative zone. There is always a sport in the sports zone (managed by Lunchtime Controllers and Sports Captains) and a range of balls, bats and skipping ropes available during the week.
At the end of the day we ask that children are collected on time. It is distressing for a child, when everybody else has gone home, to be left at school. We understand that problems do arise, but if parents telephone us, we can reassure your child that you are on the way.
The school requests that, for safety reasons, parents only park in the parking bays in the car park - please do not double park, on the double yellow lines, verges or use the disabled bay without a blue badge.
We ask that dogs are not brought onto the school premises.
Children should not bring valuable items such as jewellery. Please see the Mobile Phones policy for guidance on their use in school. We cannot accept responsibility for mobile phones, Smart gadgets or any lost property.
Teaching Assistants (TAs)
We employ a number of teaching assistants (TAs) to help and support the work of the class teacher. Teaching assistants help with both individual children and groups; they assist with the general supervision of the children and learning activities. In general, there is one TA for each class in Reception and KS1 and one per year group in KS2. However, this may change as TAs are deployed to meet the children’s needs.
