Development Governor
Welfare and Parental Involvement Committee
Before I started working at LEGO, I studied Modern Languages and spent time living in Germany and Denmark during and after my studies. I worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school in Denmark, and at a sixth form college in Germany. I thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and have always been interested in the workings of a school since! I am delighted to be able to contribute to Birch Hill School.

The experiences which I have gained from working in education place me in a great position to help and support the children, their parents and the staff of Birch Hill School.

I became a Local Authority governor at the end of 2013.I am a retired teacher, and spent the last fifteen years of my career working for a central service supporting the education of children in care. I am Vice Chair of Bristol’s fostering panel and an independent member of Bath fostering panel. Having returned to this area in 2012 I was keen to give something back to the community and wanted to be able to work with a local school. I have four grandchildren who attend local primary schools – they keep me active and energentic!

HEAD TEACHER - Start 01/09/15

All Committees
I began my teaching career in Haringey and spent 12 years in Richmond upon Thames.  It is a privilege to be the Headteacher at Birch Hill, a school with an enthusiastic staff and a committed community.  Our children are happy and responsible individuals.  They strive to achieve the highest standards within a learning environment that supports and challenges their knowledge, skills and understanding. I live in Farnborough with my wife and two children - aged 11 and 7.  When I have any spare time I enjoy listening to music and training for the odd triathlon!

I am a novice parent governor (since March 2014) and I am passionate about education and the role it plays in shaping and preparing our pupils for the future. I have a son in Birch Hill Primary who has served as a school councillor for successive years and inspired me to become a parent governor so that I could contribute to the development success of our local school; how our kids are wise and inspirational indeed!I have enjoyed my role as a parent governor tremendously thus far and I have found it rewarding and challenging too. I bring to the Board of Governors a wealth of experience gained from working in higher education, both as post graduate student and post-doctoral research fellow, and in IT and the Financial Services industry.

I have worked at Birch Hill for 20 years, starting when my 3 children were here. Initially as an LSA and then developing new skills to become the IT support and Librarian. My role as Clerk allows me to understand more about the running of a school behind the scenes and fits well with my other duties although no longer full time, as I am now also enjoying the delights of being a Grandmother.
